Dear Dr. Berger,

I'm now 12 weeks pregnant. You performed a tubal reversal on me in May 2001 and I just wanted to let you know that I'm now 12 weeks pregnant, at age 41, without any fertility treatment at all! Everything is progressing wonderfully, except that I'm on a very mild dose of methyldopa for elevated bloodpressure. My ob/gyn was able to detect the baby's heartbeat (160) at my checkup last week (at about 10 1/2 weeks along).

My husband and I sought the reversal after the death of our 4 year old daughter, Katie, in February 2001, from a very sudden Group A Strep infection--she was intended to be an only child. Within weeks we knew we had to place the decision about future children back into the hands of God....

My husband turns 44 this month and I just turned 41 in January and we knew that if we were meant to have another child it would be totally up to the Lord, without any fertility treatments to help us along. I did get pregnant in July 2001 and miscarried in October 2001 (at approximately 10 weeks, without ever having gotten a fetal heartbeat) and I knew then that that miscarriage came with a message--everything within me and my husband was functioning fine and a child, if one was to come, would come in God's timing, not ours. Our job was to be patient and wait on His timing. I have to tell you that the past 4 years have not been in vain because we have healed so much from our loss of Katie and I do believe that God's timing is perfect in so many ways, for us, right now.

I wanted to share our wonderful news with you and let you know how much we appreciate the part that you and your center played in helping to lead us to this blessing!

I know that the birth of this precious child will always give me the opportunity to give credit to your skills and to waiting on the Lord. When we began searching the internet and asking my ob/gyn about getting my tubal ligation reversed, there were definite signs that we were to seek your help instead of someone else's--I truly know that the Lord has been guiding us since Katie's death and I knew I could trust Him to guide the surgery also. Getting pregnant in 2001 gave us proof that you had done a wonderful job and my tubes were in good condition. Time was the only other ingredient needed, even though it's often the hardest for us to tolerate.
