In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a technique in which egg cells are fertilized by sperm in a laboratory (in vitro). The fertilized eggs are then transferred into the uterine cavity. The average pregnancy rate of IVF is 1:4 to 1:3 cases from the time of egg retrieval at a cost of $10,000 to $12,000. Studies show that tubal reversal has a higher pregnancy rate and a higher birth rate than IVF and at a lower cost.
