“I can’t thank you enough for giving me my life and body back.”

I can't thank you enough for not only giving me my life and body back, but also giving me the incredible opportunity to experience bringing another beautiful child into the world. Posted April 7th, 2010

Dear Dr. Berger, I came to see you about 8 years ago for a tubal reversal. My husband and I had just finished recording our first Christian album and you played the CD in the OR during my surgery. For some reason when I joined Facebook, it suggested that I invite you as a friend. I have been meaning to write you now for two years. I have to share with you what has happened to us, because you were a part of such an incredible gift.

I came to you for a tubal reversal because from the day of my tubal until my reversal surgery I had all kinds of health problems from the hormonal imbalances caused by my tubes being tied. I didn’t want more children. I had two, a boy and a girl, I was in my late 30′s, and we considered ourselves done since I don’t do pregnancy well. I just wanted my life back. After the surgery, all the health problems I had experienced began to go away and over time they were completely gone except for a quirky month every now and then. We used NFP and found it worked well for us.

At age 40, I was told by my Ob/Gyn that I was headed into menopause and could probably never have children again. I was fine and moved on. In Jan. of that year we were at our church and our pastor was preaching. He said, “When we get to judgment, we won’t answer for all the good things we’ve done, we’ll answer for how well we did the thing we were called to do.” This stuck with me since Dan and I are in marriage and family ministry.

Then our pastor said, “Let me give you an example. What if there is a woman here today that’s in ministry that reaches 100′s or 1000′s of lives doing lots of good, but what if God is really calling her to have a baby that will reach more lives that she ever will?” I didn’t think that statement could apply to me, but throughout the day I kept weeping but I didn’t know why. That night I became very ill. I thought I had a stomach virus, and for 3 days I was sick. On the third day I was a little concerned. As I prayed that night, I asked the Lord, “what is wrong with me”. I distinctly heard his voice calmly say in my heart, “you’re having a baby”. Our beautiful, miracle gift was born on Sept. 19, 2007. His name is John David after “John” the beloved of Christ, and “David” the man after God’s own heart. He is beautiful and an incredible blessing. What a joy it has been to be reminded that I’m not really in charge after all. He truly is a miracle, because I am now in full blown menopause since his delivery at age 44.

I can’t thank you enough for not only giving me my life and body back, but also giving me the incredible opportunity to experience bringing another beautiful child into the world whose life has great purpose. You, Dr. Berger, I can truly say, have done the thing you were called to do and you’ve done it well. We, in our culture, have lost sight of just how beautiful children really are. The Bible says, “they are a gift from the Lord.” We spend way too much time preventing birth verses birthing life. If I had my life to do over again, I would have had a house full of children. I’ve now come to understand that they really are the future and they’re the only thing we can leave behind that can change the world’s tomorrows. Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for me and my family. You helped give us one of the greatest gifts of all, the gift of life. May God continue to bless you as you bless lives and change the future with the work of your hands. What a legacy you are leaving behind.
