“My 47th birthday was on April 4th and the best present I received was from you. Because of Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center I was able to celebrate my 47th birthday with my 3 month old son.”

Posted April 17th, 2009

Dear Dr. Berger,

My 47th birthday was on April 4th and the best present I received was from you. Because of the work that you and your staff perform at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, I was able to celebrate my 47th birthday with my 3 month old son, Cole Alexander, who was born on January 6th of this year.

After my tubal ligation in March of 2004, I never thought I would feel the warmth of a small baby’s body on my chest, or kiss daily the fat rosy cheeks and toes of a newborn.

I had my tubal reversal performed on November 12, 2007 and seven months later, I was pregnant with my third child. Cole is a beautiful and healthy baby. While I had complications with my pregnancy, it was totally due to my own health issues and not my age. I had the same problems when I gave birth to my other two children at ages 29 and 41.

I would be honored to have you share my story. I was really inspired to have my tubal reversal even though I was 45 years old primarily because of the wonderful postings I read on your message boards. I read them on a daily basis before my procedure and continued to do so after my surgery. Your Center has the best website regarding this procedure, and more importantly about how women feel about the process, that I have seen.

My 47th Birthday Present - Cole Alexander.

I sincerely hope that my success story (giving birth 3 months before my 47th birthday) will be a source of inspiration to others. I hope that the women over 40 years old will read it and continue to have faith that miracle can still happen, even after 45.

Sincerely,

Dawne S.

Reading testimonial #808 has really inspired and encouraged me. At age 42, I was a little concerned, but now I have hope. My husband doesn’t have any kids and I have two girls from a previous marriage. He is the oldest child and in his culture having children are very important. Thank you so much for the inspiration! I am claiming in a year and a half from now I will be posting my testimony about our bleesing! Thank you so much!

  2. Jackie Says:

After reading this testimony, it gave me hope again. I’m 45 and still trying. I thought I was just too old.I had my surgery in July of 07.I’m just going to put it in the Lord’s hands. Thank you for this uplifting testimony.

Don’t worry – you will have a baby in due time. It will happen. The hard part is over. You will be in my prayers. Take care, Jackie.

  4. Penni Says:

This testimony was for me. My local OB GYN told me under no circumstances would he perform a reversal because of my age – 44!!! he told me to have in vitro and that was the end of the conversation.

In Vitro isn’t what I want, I want to experience the excitement and have my pregnancy be as natural as possible. I am planning to have my surgery within the next 6 months or so. I am excited already!!

  5. Rose Says:

I am so glad to see this post. I’m 45 yrs old and had my tubes tied (cauterized) 11 yrs ago after my third child was born. Same as Penni, the fertility clinic I went to would not perform the reversal because of my age. IVF is apparently my only solution. I’ve gone through all the hormone test (FSH, sonohystogram, etc.) and I was told that there’s follicles we can work with.

I have finally decided to go ahead with my original plan – to have my tubes reversed. My current partner doesn’t have any children while I had 3 with my first marriage. I would really love to have another child and I hope that someday, I can have another one. I am planning my reversal for September of this year.

  6. Denise Says:

What an inspiration to read your story. I will be 46 in Sept. Had my fsh tested and it came back 2.9! Thats when I really beleived maybe my eggs werent to old yet -like all the other websites statistics and Dr. tell us they are at our age! Like many of you I already have 4 wonderful boys 26-11 yrs old and my fiance has none. I am torn between invtro and TR. I also want to experience getting pregnant the natural way not through invitro. Thanks for posting your story of encouragement for all of us. Many blessings and prayers to all!!

  7. Kevina Says:

Reading all the testimonials fills me with warmth and excitement. I am scheduled for my TR in July 2009. Am nervous and exicited because my hubsand doesn’t have any children and although he says it okay that I can not concieve, I feel differently. I want more than anything in this world to bear his child/children. I am 37 and my TL was done with a ring in 9/2001. I’ll keep everyone posted as I hope to be a source of encouragement for the next TR mom to be.
    God bless you all!

  8. Monica Says:

    Dawne,

Thank you so much for your testimonial! I am 41 (turning 42 in October) and I have been debating about having TR for the past 3 years. I have my TL performed over 13 years ago. I have four children (3 boys and 1 girl ages 20-13); and like many other women, I never thought I would divorce and meet the man of my dreams. He does not have any children, but I know it is something he has been longing for. I am now hopeful that the surgery could be successful at my age. You have inspired me. Many blessings to you all.

  9. Jeane Says:

I just finished the first and probably last IVF treatment that resulted in 45 shots over 10 days, surgical retrieval of eggs, only 2 fair to poor embryos that were transplanted, and a negative pregnancy test. I was told because of my age 45 that IVF was my only true hope of having another baby (I have 3 children already and my husband has 1 from a prior marriage). My husband is 12 years younger than me and we both want children together. After getting a phone call today from my doctor on the heels of the bad news, she doesn’t think I should try again because of my age. While devastated at this news, I am taking heart and hope from the testimonies on this page that all will be well for us. We will get pregnant the old fashioned way – after a little help from Dr. Berger and his team. It certainly should be a heck of a lot more fun than what I just went through.

  10. VERONICA HUDSON Says:

After reading and hearing so many wonderful stories I have decided to take a chance and try TR. It sounds like a great idea. Me and my husband have been talking about this for awhile but he didn’t want to put me through any pain and suffering. He doesn’t have kids. At our wedding he told his parent that since we couldn’t give them a grandchild at least he could do is give them a wedding. I have three ages from 16-24. And I would love to give my husband a child. And with your help I think it’s possible.
