Sheila – Have you confirmed that you are ovulating regularly with ovulation predictor kits? Has your husband had a semen analysis? Dr. Berger, I need to know why I haven’t been able to get pregnant since I had my tubal reversal by you on June 5th 2005. I am very disappointed with the fact that I spent 6,500 hundred dollars on a waste of time. I guess you would probably say that I was in that 1% range. You told me that at least one of my tubes was still showing open after my surgery, but that should be enough to get pregnant. Well, i still haven’t been able to conceive a child at this point. Some advice would be good at this present time, so that I can try something else to get pregnant.

Casey - The Filshie clips have cut through the tubes and your fallopian tubes are now each separated into two segments. You will not be able to become pregnant again unless you have them rejoined, called tubal anastomosis (or tubal reversal). The medication you were given for treating your endometriosis will eventually wear off and your periods will start again, so you will be able to conceive after tubal reversal surgery. At age 32, your outlook is excellent if you have your tubal anastomosis at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center.

I’m 32 and had the flilshie clamp used 9 years ago. I recently had endometrosis surgery and we discovered that the clamps have fallen off and left a small gap in between the tubes. Can I still conceive or will I need to have a full reversal? Also, for a couple months I was given a shot for temporary menopause. Is it to late to conceive?

Dora Bonilla – Your ob/gyn has not given you correct information. You can see from the pregnancy statistics of our patients at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center that the chances of getting pregnant after reversal of tubal bands (rings) is over 70%.

Dora - Here's where you can see your chances of getting pregnant after tubal reversal - look at table 5 in the age category 30-34 for women with rings. The follow-up statistics on our patients at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center show a pregnancy rate of 76%. This is much higher than the IVF pregnancy rate of about 30% and it costs less to have a tubal reversal than to undergo a single IVF cycle. Once your tubes are repaired, that gives you the chance to get pregnant every month.

I am 32 and had a TL 7 yrs ago but my doctor did not cut them all he did was tie them and put a tubal band on them. My question is that they told me that the bands cause scar tissue and i would be better off if i did Inf. What are my chances?

Dr. Berger, I am a 28 years old woman hoping for another chance to have another baby. I have two boys and they are 14 and 11 years old. I had my tubes tied when my youngest was 5 years old... Now I am with someone that doesn't have any kids ...he loves my kids and is very good to them, but I would like for us to have our own....he is a good guy and at the beginning I was afraid to tell him about my tubes tied, but god helped me and I told him ..he was sad but then we found your website and we are very excited about meeting you and hoping you could help us !!!

Viniana – If you are having regular menstrual cycles there is a chance to become pregnant after tubal ligation reversal. But at age 46, the better chance is with donor egg IVF.

Nina – If your doctor cauterized both tubes along their entire lengths, there will not be anything left to repair, so tubal reversal wouldn’t be possible. In this circumstance, IVF is the only treatment option that can help you.

COLLEN L. – Tubal reversal can be performed after an abdominoplasty. We do this frequently. The primary risk of tubal reversal surgery is the risk of ectopic pregnancy, approximately 10 percent. At age 28, your chances of becoming pregnant within a year of the reversal is approximately 85 percent. There is little risk associated with your previous c-sections in having your tubes untied. If you have high blood pressure, however, it is important that your blood pressure be normal while taking your medications.
